Everest Expeditions: Santosh Yadav scaled Mt Everest in 1992, becoming part of an Indo-Nepalese Women's Expedition. She climbed it again in 1993, making her the first woman in the world to scale Everest twice. During one expedition, she saved a fellow climber's life by sharing her oxygen.
Awards: She received the Padmashri and was one of the youngest women to receive this honour. She also holds the record for collecting the most garbage from the Everest expedition (500 kg), showing environmental consciousness.
Part II: Maria Sharapova â From Siberia to the Top of Women's Tennis
Background: Maria Sharapova was born in Siberia, Russia, in 1987. She moved to the United States at age nine to train in tennis at a top academy in Florida. Her father Yuri accompanied her, but her mother could not come for two years due to visa restrictions.
Challenges: As a young girl alone in a foreign country, she faced loneliness and homesickness. Older students in the training academy were unkind and would wake her up to do errands. But Maria never let these hardships break her spirit.
Rise to the Top: She trained with fierce determination and discipline. In 2004, at age seventeen, she won Wimbledon â one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments â becoming the first Russian woman to do so. She went on to become the world number one in women's tennis.
Philosophy: Maria credits her success to her competitive nature and her unwillingness to accept defeat. She believes mental toughness is as important as physical skill. Though proudly Russian, she holds American citizenship and represents Russia in tennis.
