About the Story

Format: Comic strip / graphic narrative

Setting: Based on stories of Gopal Bhar, a court jester in a Bengali king's court.

Theme: Wit, humour, and cleverness in solving challenges.

Story Summary

It was hilsa-fish season and everyone in the kingdom was talking about hilsa fish. The king was annoyed that nobody could talk about anything else. He challenged his courtiers to buy a hilsa fish and bring it to the palace without anyone asking about it or talking about it.

Gopal accepted the challenge. He dressed up as a madman - half-shaved face, ragged clothes, ash smeared on face. He walked through the market carrying a hilsa fish, but everyone was so distracted by his bizarre appearance that nobody noticed the fish. He successfully reached the court without anyone asking about the hilsa fish.

Key Message
