About the Story

Author: Sharada Dwivedi

Theme: Curiosity, jumping to conclusions, and the difference between appearance and reality.

Story Summary

Two children, Nishad (Seven) and Maya, become curious about Mr Nath, a strange neighbour who lives alone. Mr Nath has burn scars on his face, never talks to anyone, doesn't work, receives occasional visits from a man who brings him food, and pays cash for everything.

Maya is convinced Mr Nath is a criminal - possibly a crook hiding from the police. She creates an elaborate theory about him. Nishad (Seven), however, feels sympathy for Mr Nath. He notices the man is thin and lonely, and thinks he deserves kindness rather than suspicion.

Characters

  • Nishad (Seven): Sensitive, kind-hearted boy who feels sorry for Mr Nath
  • Maya: Imaginative, suspicious, wants to be a detective
  • Mr Nath: Mysterious neighbour with burn scars, lives alone

Key Message

The story shows how easily we can jump to conclusions about people based on appearances. Maya's suspicion and Nishad's sympathy represent two different ways of responding to the unknown. It teaches us not to judge people without knowing their full story.
