The banyan tree is home to many creatures — squirrels, birds, butterflies, and insects. The boy watches them all from his special spot in the tree. He describes the tree as old and grand, with spreading branches, aerial roots that hang down, and a thick trunk.
The Fight Between Mongoose and Cobra
One afternoon, from his seat in the banyan tree, the boy witnesses an exciting fight between a mongoose and a large black cobra. A crow and a myna also join in, trying to interfere in the fight.
The mongoose is small, quick, and clever. The cobra is longer and has a deadly bite. The fight is intense. The mongoose darts in and out, dodging the cobra's strikes with lightning speed. The cobra tries to bite the mongoose, but the mongoose is too fast. The cobra spreads its hood and hisses angrily.
The crow and the myna swoop down to attack the cobra, but the cobra strikes the crow, and the crow falls to the ground, dead. The myna wisely keeps its distance after that. Finally, after a long and thrilling battle, the mongoose wins by grabbing the cobra by the head. The mongoose drags the cobra into the bushes.
After the Fight
After the fight, everything returns to normal. The myna flies away, the garden becomes peaceful again, and the boy continues sitting in his tree. He reflects on the exciting event he has just witnessed from his unique vantage point.
