Multiplication Tables
Multiplication tables help us do calculations quickly. You should know tables from 2 to 10 by heart. To build a table, add the number repeatedly: 7 x 1 = 7, 7 x 2 = 14, 7 x 3 = 21, and so on. Tables are useful for shopping, cooking, and many everyday tasks.
Division as Equal Sharing
Division means sharing equally. If 20 toffees are shared among 5 children, each child gets 20 ÷ 5 = 4 toffees. Division can also mean making equal groups: 20 toffees put in groups of 4 gives 20 ÷ 4 = 5 groups. Both give the same result!
Division with Remainders
Sometimes things do not divide equally. If 23 apples are shared among 4 children, each child gets 5 apples (4 x 5 = 20), and 3 apples are left over. These 3 apples are called the remainder. We write: 23 ÷ 4 = 5 remainder 3. The remainder is always less than the number you divide by.
Multiplication and Division Relationship
Multiplication and division are opposite operations. If 6 x 8 = 48, then 48 ÷ 8 = 6 and 48 ÷ 6 = 8. You can use multiplication to check division: if 35 ÷ 7 = 5, check by multiplying 7 x 5 = 35. This relationship helps you solve problems faster.
