Key Concepts
Days of the Week
There are 7 days in a week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If today is Wednesday, then yesterday was Tuesday and tomorrow will be Thursday. The days keep repeating in the same order every week.
Months of the Year
There are 12 months in a year: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December. Some months have 30 days, some have 31 days, and February has 28 or 29 days. After December, January comes again.
Reading a Calendar
A calendar shows us all the days in a month. It has rows and columns. The top row shows the names of the days. We can find any date by looking at the correct row and column. Holidays and special days are often marked on calendars.
Telling Time
A clock has a short hand (hour hand) and a long hand (minute hand). When the long hand points to 12, the short hand tells us the hour. When the long hand points to 6, it is half past the hour. For example, if the short hand is on 3 and the long hand is on 6, it is half past 3.
Daily Routine and Time
We wake up at 7 o'clock. School starts at 8 o'clock. We eat lunch at 12 o'clock. We play in the evening at 4 o'clock. We eat dinner at 8 o'clock. We go to bed at 9 o'clock. Every activity has a time.
