आँकड़ों का प्रबंधन

Learning Objectives

  • Collect simple information by counting
  • Record data using pictures and tally marks
  • Read simple picture graphs
  • Answer questions based on the data collected
  • Sort and classify objects into groups

Key Concepts

What is Data?

Data means information that we collect. We can collect data about favourite fruits, colours, or animals in our class. For example, we can ask each friend which fruit they like best and write it down. This information is called data.

Collecting Data

We collect data by asking questions and counting. For example, how many children like apples? How many like bananas? We count and write the numbers. We can also use tally marks to keep count. One tally mark looks like a straight line. After four lines, we draw the fifth line across them.

Picture Graphs

A picture graph uses small pictures to show data. Each picture stands for one item. If 4 children like mangoes, we draw 4 small mango pictures. By looking at the pictures, we can quickly see which item has the most and which has the least.

Reading a Picture Graph

To read a picture graph, count the pictures in each row or column. The row with the most pictures has the highest count. The row with the fewest pictures has the lowest count. We can compare groups by looking at the lengths of the rows.

Important Terms

  • Data: Information collected by counting or asking questions
  • Tally marks: Lines used to keep count, with every fifth line drawn across the other four
  • Picture graph: A graph that uses pictures to show information
  • Most: The largest number in a group
  • Least: The smallest number in a group
  • Sorting: Putting objects into groups based on a common feature

Quick Revision

  • Data is information we collect by counting or asking questions
  • Tally marks help us keep count: |||| means 4, and the fifth line goes across
  • Picture graphs use small pictures to represent numbers
  • Count pictures carefully to read a picture graph
  • We can sort objects by colour, shape, size, or type
  • Data helps us answer questions like "which is the most popular?"
